01 — Family and place
The family story takes root in Minneapolis. A flower business becomes part livelihood, part language: color, arrangement, hospitality, work.
During the Second World War, on open, undeveloped prairie in Eden Prairie, JJ’s great-grandfather plants flower fields. In a period obsessed with output and obedience, the family keeps cultivating color.
After the war, the flowers move into the city. The family runs a flower shop at 28th and Emerson: creative labor made practical, daily and public.
The acreage becomes the family home for generations. JJ’s father grows up there. JJ later spends long summer days on the same property, watching it change.
02 — The generational thread

The former flower-store building now houses Flowers Recording Studio. There is no family affiliation — only an uncanny echo: same site, creative labor still happening inside.
JJ works as an artist, producer, promoter and booker. The medium changes. The family pattern — cultivating experience, gathering people, making something vivid — does not.
Then
Fields. Storefronts. Pattern. Texture. A family making beauty useful enough to survive.
Same impulse
Now
Music. Events. Design. Community. A new medium for the same instinct to cultivate a room.
03 — Present day / JJ
JJ’s work in Minneapolis live music does not need to imitate the flower business to belong to the same lineage. The connection is structural: creative labor, social space, cultivated atmosphere and a refusal of smallness.
